Season 2008/9
Lars and the Real Girl (15)
Wednesday, 19 November 2008 at the Town Hall, Berwick. A lonely, acutely shy young man finds it hard to form relationships. Until, that is, he befriends a stunning half-Brazilian/Danish religious missionary - with a difference. Touching yet surprisingly untacky and in good taste, this quirky, poignant tale stirs the heart and tickles the mirth buds. Don’t miss it!

Why Films in Berwick?
With the demise of the Berwick Playhouse in 2005, the chances for local people to get to see films became limited. There is now no dedicated cinema between Edinburgh and Newcastle. The Maltings Arts Centre in Berwick is a multi-event venue which is able to show a limited number of films. We want to complement that with our own unique programme of movies.
Films shown locally provide an event for the community and encourage people to come out and meet up, without having to make a big journey. We welcome members from near and far – the more, the better!
Finally, we confess to being hopelessly biased: we believe a strong programme of films can provoke discussion, offer insight, escape, inspiration, a mental and visual feast and — not least — a great night out!
The Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, held every 2 years in September (with a mini-fest every other year), is an additional opportunity to see new and exciting moving image work. We cooperate closely with the Festival and wish it every success.
Where and When?
Our Film Seasons run from September/October through to May of the following year. Films are screened once a month on the last Wednesday of each month during the Season, (unless otherwise notified e.g. at Christmas). Our filmshows are held at the Town Hall, (also known as the Guildhall), Marygate, Berwick. Wine and soft drinks available from 7pm!
Please contact us if you'd like to be added to our mailing list for programme information and occasional updates. (We never pass on your details to any third party).
What Are Our Goals?
Simply put, to bring film closer to local people. Funding permitting, our future intention is to take films to smaller rural communities where transport or going out at night is not easy, as well as continuing to screen films on a monthly basis in Berwick.
